Black Prince sword letter opener

£28

This sword is a mini replica of one used by Edward of Woodstock, better known as the Black Prince.

The blade of this replica sword is made from stainless steel which really catches the light, drawing your attention to the beautiful gold-coloured pattern work on the fuller. A red and gold coat of arms sits in the centre of the ornate, etched crossguard; a design that can also be found on the pommel. In between these two designs this paperknife features an opulent red leather grip.

Combined with one of our mini-sword stands, this replica Black Prince sword will make a striking ornamental addition to the home. As well as being great to look at, this mini-sword doubles up as a letter opener and paper knife. All of our letter openers come presented in boxes, making them ideal gifts for Father's Day, Christmas and birthdays.

Although never crowned king himself, as he was outlived by his farther Edward III, the Black Price rose to fame as a fierce military lieutenant, scoring numerous victories against France in his father's name during the Hundred Years War. There is much speculation as to where the title of 'Black Prince' originated; some believe it refers to the black armour that Edward would wear during battle. Others say it is a reflection of his brutality towards the French during the Hundred Years War.

Please note that the Black Prince Sword Letter Opener does not come with a stand. Paper knife stands can be purchased separately. Please see our mini sword stand listings to see if your blade is compatible.
