Richard the Lionheart sword letter opener

£28

This is a miniature replica of the sword believed to have been used by Richard Lionheart during the Third Crusade.

This letter opener has a highly detailed gold coloured hilt finished with a black leather-style grip, which is separated with etched St George's Cross detail. The eye catching stainless steel blade emphasises the beautiful gold design on the fuller which features three lions. Dragons appear several times on the hilt, with one sitting atop the sword on the pommel and the others making up the gold cross-guard; ending at fierce dragon heads.

Not just a letter opener and paper knife, this is a fine mini sword replica to display on one of our stands at home or on your work desk. This miniature replica comes boxed and is a fantastic Father's Day, Christmas or birthday gift for any British history enthusiast.

Richard I was King of England from 1189 to 1199, in this time he became known as Richard Lionheart. He was given this nickname due to the bravery that he displayed on the battlefield during the Third Crusade, in which he was one of the main figures.

The Third Crusade was a fight to claim The Holy Land (now comprised of Syria, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon and Palestine). The capture of Jerusalem by Saladin, the sultan of Egypt, in 1187, prompted the Third Crusade. To fund this mission, Richard I sold off offices, dignities and royal land as well as persecuted and robbed the Jews – he is even reported to have said "I would sell London itself if only I could find a rich enough buyer".

Please note that the Richard the Lionheart Sword Letter Opener does not come with a stand. Paper knife stands can be purchased separately. Please see our mini sword stand listings to see if your blade is compatible
