I.33 collection
The Royal Armouries is pleased to present its long awaited I33 Collection.
The collection is inspired by one of the Armouries most prized treasures – The MS I.33 Manuscript, otherwise known as the Tower Fechtbuch or Walpurgis Manuscript. This German fencing manual dates back to the 1320s and is fully illustrated, consisting of both mnemonic verses and longer explanations in Medieval Latin. The manuscript depicts unarmoured fencing between a priest and student with sword and buckler; and on the last two pages, a priest and a woman referred to as Walpurgis.
This range draws inspiration from the repeating devices found throughout the manuscript which denote the beginning of a new fencing sequence.
