This collection has been created to coincide with the 500th anniversary of the greatest tournament of the Tudor age - the Field of Cloth of Gold, which took place in 1520.
The Field of Cloth of Gold was one of the greatest courtly spectacles of the sixteenth century. A carefully orchestrated meeting outside Calis between Henry VIII and Francis I, it encapsulated Henry's ambitions and confirmed the role of the tournament in international diplomacy.
With the appointment of Nicholas Merbury as master of the King's Ordnance in the early part of the 15th century, the Royal Armouries commenced its role as the standard setter for arms and armour in this country.
This pride and heritage extends to the Royal Armouries products, inspired by our collections and our special place in Britain's history.
