Tudor burgonet helmet

Full scale replica of a Tudor Burgonet helmet from the Elizabethan era, including ‘Falling Buffe’ with which it was commonly worn.

This is a quality replica helmet that has been carefully handcrafted from 18 gauge polished steel in the style of a burgonet helmet which was worn mainly by cavalry in 16th century England. This helmet is complete with hinged cheek pieces and a detachable visor (falling buffe) which is attached to the main helmet by buckled leather straps. Each of these sections is decorated with brass detailing in the form of strips and studs.

Many examples of the Burgonet can be found at the Royal Armouries, these include; Sir John Smythe’s Burgonet (II.84.A – Leeds) and Augsburg Burgonet (IV.154 – Tower of London).

Although it is not recommended that this helmet be used for re-enactment, it does come complete with padded lining cap. This helmet would instead make a unique and exciting furnishing for any Tudor enthusiast’s home or office, especially when teamed with one of our wooden helmet stands.

Stand sold separately.
