Byzantine knot drop earrings

£50

Using stainless steel rings like those used for traditional mail, Anjo Designs have produced these stunning, mail inspired, Byzantine knot drop earrings.

These earrings would make a perfect addition to any of our other mail jewellery items, European or Japanese. They can transform your jewellery into a one-of-a-kind set of historically significant accessories.

The metal links for mail were traditionally made from steel or iron wire which was wrapped around a rod and cut. Believed to have been the first form of metal armour invented, it was assembled by a master craftsman aided by his apprentices who supplied him with the metal links. In use from as early as the 5th Century, mail is still in use today but not necessarily in the same way. It is often used in the modern day for protective clothing in other areas such as; scuba diving, butchery and stab proof clothing. On top of that, mail has transformed from use on items of defence to items of decoration and beauty; as with our chain main jewellery collection.

Anjo Designs are a husband and wife partnership based on the Wirral who combine the traditional methods of mail with modern designs to create bespoke jewellery. Everything they produce is hand crafted therefore there may be slight differences between each set of earrings and the images shown.
