This year marks the 80th anniversary of D-Day, the Allied invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944. Code named Operation Neptune, it was the largest seaborne invasion in history.

Portsmouth and its surrounding areas played a crucial role in the preparations for this historic event. A new exhibition has opened at Fort Nelson called D-Day: A Portsmouth Story which will be complemented with a programme of themed events throughout the year.
