Heavyweight stainless steel necklace handmade using traditional mail armour techniques. This fashionable necklace is constructed of 36 links, each made of 6 intertwined stainless steel rings, that's a total of 216 metal rings. You'll find this is a complex and unique piece of jewellery that stands out from other fashion jewellery on the market. Measuring a total of 51cm (20 inches) this necklace sits comfortably just below the neckline; fastening at the back. The historical context and traditional methods used for this jewellery gives it a real touch of class and sophistication.

Traditional mail techniques have been used to produce this necklace despite it not following a particular mail pattern. Mail, meaning 'chain', is a historic style of armour that dates back to the Romans and Etruscans. It was made by a master craftsman and his apprentices by assembling hundreds of tiny mental rings into wearable garments for all over the body. The rings were usually made from steel or iron which was fed through small holes at hot temperatures until the metal took on wire form. As you can imagine, the production of mail can be a highly time consuming process, even today with modern tools.

Anjo Designs

Anjo Designs are a husband and wife partnership based on the Wirral who combine the traditional methods of mail with modern designs to create bespoke jewellery. Everything they produce is hand crafted with precision, taking reference from historic mail and traditional techniques. As with any hand crafted product, there may be slight difference between each piece and the pictures shown. Rest assured however, that all the jewellery Anjo produce has a great amount of time and care spent on it to ensure its high quality finish.

Please ensure that someone is available at the delivery address to receive your order. Any undelivered or uncollected parcels will be returned to sender. We will automatically issue a refund for all products once they have been received back at the museum, however, shipping is non-refundable.

Collect in store

  • Collections can be made from the shop at Royal Armouries Museum, Leeds during opening hours.
  • You will be notified via email once your order is ready for collection.
  • Once you receive this notification, we will hold your order for 30 days.
  • Please bring your order confirmation and ID that matches the name on the order.
  • Limited short stay, road-side parking is available on Clarence Road or Citipark operate the nearby Leeds Dock multi-storey car park. Please note that parking charges may apply.
