English great helm half scale replica — Royal Armouries collection
This half scale replica is based on the extremely rare English Great Helm on display at the Royal Armouries in Leeds.
The product is part of our exciting new Royal Armouries Replica Collection which lets enthusiasts experience objects from the collection 'at first hand'. Our museum experts have been closely involved with the development of this exciting new range to ensure these replicas accurately represent the originals with a tremendous attention to detail.
This mid-14th century English Great Helm is one of only three of its type which is known to have survived. The others are of Edward the Black Prince now held at Canterbury Cathedral and Sir Richard Pembridge which is now in Edinburgh at the National Museum of Scotland.
The great helm was made for the battlefield and used in the field until the end of the 14th century, after which it was often used for jousting.
Despite being named 'English' due to their provenance evidence suggests that these great helms are more likely to be of Flemish or German manufacture.
Being based on one of only three surviving English great helms which were used for war, this reproduction makes a fantastic collector's item with a story.
A unique gift for fans of the Royal Armouries, this outstanding replica also comes complete with a helmet stand making it possible for enthusiasts to display a part of the museum in their own homes.
