Archers Sleeve Tea Towel
Our Archers Sleeve Tea Towel is an interpretation of the Chinese silk archers sleeve housed in our museum. The sleeve comes from Edo period Japan 1603-1867 and is a treasured piece within our museum, noted for its remarkable craftsmanship and intricacy.
The Chinese silk brocade is lined with pale blue hemp. These sleeves were worn on the left arm to protect the clothing from rub of the bowstring when practising archery. It has a cord and toggles to fasten it at the wrist and long ties to fasten under the right arm.
The heavy weight cotton fabric used for this towel manages to capture the textural quality of the original fabric beautifully and is a fantastic addition for any kitchen and a great talking point for dinner parties.
