Postcard; Henry VIII's Foot Combat Armour

Postcard size
This remarkable armour is one of the most important here at the Royal Armouries, as it is only one of four such foot-combat armours known to exist. It was made for Henry VIII to be worn at the Field of Cloth of Gold in 1520, held to cement the recent peace treaty between England and France. The 18-day spectacle centred around a grand tournament which included two days of combat on foot at the barriers. Unfortunately, just two months before the event was due to take place, the French unexpectedly changed the specification for the foot-combat armour. As a result, work on Henry's armour ceased, leaving it incomplete and unfinished.
