Postcard; Partizan of the Gardes du Corps of Louis XIV. VII.1358
Highly decorated staff-weapons were often carried by guards and retainers of monarchs and noblemen between the 16th and 17th centuries. This tradition continues today, with the Body Guard of the Yeomen of the Guard and the Yeomen Warders of the Tower of London both bearing partizans.
