The Sutton Hoo helmet is one of the most celebrated archaeological discoveries ever made in Britain. Unearthed from a 7th-century Anglo-Saxon ship burial in Suffolk, it is one of only four known surviving Anglo-Saxon helmets in the world — and the most elaborately decorated of them all. Historians believe the original helmet belonged to one of four possible Anglo-Saxon kings — most likely Rædwald, overlord of the English kingdoms from AD 616, who ruled at the height of the early medieval period. Whoever wore it, this was a helmet of supreme power and prestige.

Limited short stay, road-side parking is available on Clarence Road or Citipark operate the nearby Leeds Dock multi-storey car park. Please note that parking charges may apply.
