Meet the Maker: Spice Kitchen – Bringing Global Flavours Together

As part of our Genghis Khan: How the Mongols Changed the World range, we're delighted to feature products from Spice Kitchen, an award-winning family business inspired by a passion for flavour, heritage and cultural connection.

Founded by mother-and-son team Shashi and Sanjay in 2012, Spice Kitchen began as a retirement project for Shashi after years of friends and family encouraging her to share her much-loved spice blends. What started at the family kitchen table has grown into a business recognised across the UK and beyond, while remaining rooted in the values that inspired it from the beginning: family, hospitality and a love of bringing people together through food.

A Family Story

Food has always been at the heart of Spice Kitchen. Shashi moved to the UK from India in the 1960s, bringing with her a deep knowledge of spices, flavours and home cooking that would later form the foundation of the business.

Many of Spice Kitchen's recipes are inspired by family dishes and cherished memories, while also reflecting the way food evolves as cultures and traditions meet. Today, that spirit of curiosity continues to shape the business, encouraging people to explore new flavours and discover the stories behind them.

The Journey of Spice

Long before modern trade routes connected the world, spices travelled vast distances across continents, linking cultures, communities and cuisines. This movement of goods and ideas helped shape the world we know today.

That sense of connection remains central to Spice Kitchen. While the business has its roots in Indian cooking, its inspiration comes from across the globe, celebrating the many ways spices are used to create flavour and bring people together.

The result is a collection of blends designed to inspire confidence in the kitchen while encouraging culinary exploration and discovery.

Crafted with Care

Every Spice Kitchen blend begins with flavour. Recipes are carefully developed, tested and refined until they achieve the perfect balance of aroma, depth and character.

The team works with trusted suppliers to source high-quality ingredients, selecting spices for their freshness, colour and intensity. Produced in small batches, each blend is designed to help home cooks create delicious meals with ease while experiencing authentic and vibrant flavours.

At its heart, Spice Kitchen is about connection. Whether helping someone cook their first curry, experiment with global flavours or gather family and friends around a table, the goal remains the same: to create memorable experiences through food.

It's a philosophy that makes Spice Kitchen a fitting addition to the Genghis Khan: How the Mongols Changed the World range, celebrating the exchange of ideas, traditions and influences that have travelled across continents for centuries.

More to the Mongols Than Meets the Eye

Our new Genghis Khan range has been specially curated to accompany Genghis Khan: How the Mongols Changed the World, a major exhibition at the Royal Armouries Museum, Leeds, running from 26 June to 1 November 2026.

Whether you're discovering the exhibition in person or shopping online, the range brings to life the stories, cultures and connections explored in the exhibition. From handcrafted felt animals and distinctive homewares to carefully selected books, each product has been chosen to reflect the rich heritage and enduring legacy of the Mongol world.
